I’m Sheahan (pronounced like "Day-Dawn"). I'm on a mission to find beauty and excitement around the world; to gather and share wisdom, ideas, and stories with awesome people; and in general just do what I can to leave this place a little better than I found it.A little about me,I was born, raised, and have lived all my life all over the Western Atlantic. From floating over the reefs of the Bahamas as a baby, to canoeing the lakes and rivers of New England as a boy, and now charging the fierce waves of the Chesapeake; the water has always called to me. My ultimate goal is to build up my sailboat, a 1970 Tartan 34c, to make full ocean passages.Sailing is my everything. It all started back in 2020. I moved home during the pandemic, and there one of my best friends took me out on his Sunfish to show me the ropes. I had never sailed in my life before, I was 31 at the time. All I can say about my first time is that when I got to hold the mainsheet, it was love at first gust.I could feel that very same power harnessed in my hands that my forefathers had for thousands of years before—that same wind, that same energy that helped cross oceans in pursuit of adventure, treasure, and brave new worlds.Since then, I’ve obsessively dedicated my time to windsurfing, sailing, and off grid systems. I’m teaching myself everything—from electronics and plumbing to mechanics and rigging. I even started a whole new remote career so I could fund my projects from anywhere.Rebuilding my life and making the big sacrifices needed to get on the water has been a slow and arduous process, but it is, hands down, the most rewarding thing I have ever done.Follow me as I set sail chasing my dreams on the seas!If you'd like to help keep me afloat, any personal gifts go directly toward the voyage and are deeply appreciated.You can also follow along with the journey on my social media links below!Thank you very much for taking interest! Surprise is a hungry ol’ girl!
Surprise is a 1970 Tartan 34 Classic. She is a legendary Sparkman & Stephens sloop featuring an interesting modern keel that drafts 3’ 11” with the centerboard up and 8’ 4” with it down.I bought her back in May 2026. She has been pretty well taken care of by her previous owners, but needs some serious refitting for any sort of serious sailing/ adventure.Standing rigging, running rigging, chain plate refitting, some deck core chores, rudder core bedding, and more! Here is sort of my current and next project needed items. Most importantly right now I need to replace anchor tackle asap, and am trying to do things as cost effective and simple as possible. Any help is greatly appreciated!
